We strive to&n=sp;find the right solutions in order to improve and deve=op cost-efficient and effective urban resilience to better address&nb=p;the city's challenges when it comes to climate change and sea level=rise. I am happy to announce that Susanne M. Torrien=e has been named Chief Resiliency Officer and Assistant City Manager =f the City of Miami Beach, and will work on the city's resilience&nbs=;initiatives. Ms.Torriente, served as Assistant City Manager of the =ity of Fort Lauderdale where she oversaw Sustainable Development, whi=h includes Building, Planning, Code, Public Works, Transportation & Mobility, Par=s & Recreation and Structural Innovation. In that capacit=, Susanne has integrated sustainability into city operations and play=d a leadership role at a local, state and national level on climate change=issues. She has been a member of the Southeast Florida Re=ional Climate Compact steering committee since its inception in 2009 and w=s a major contributor in the development of the regional climate action pl=n. She is currently on the national Board of Directors for the Assoc=ation of Climate Change Officers, and a member of the State of Florida Dep=rtment of Economic Opportunity Community Resiliency Focus Group and the IC=El's Resilient Communities for America Advisory Committee. Prior to joining the City of Fort Lauderdale in 2011, Susanne has a long=history of government service, including serving as the Sustainability Dir=ctor for Miami-Dade County and also as an Assistant County Manager. =he also served as an Assistant City Manager in Coral Gables.
