1 The world is facing social and ecological crises as a result of climate change, biodiversity collapse and social inequality. These intertwined crises threaten human well-being through impacts to livelihoods, food security and public health, all of which have a disproportionate impact on marginalized communities.2 The interdependencies between society, biodiversity and climate demand that these crises be considered together,3 through holistic solutions that support a just transition, which – in the words of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact – “ensures that environmentally sustainable economies are promoted in a way that is as fair and inclusive as possible to everyone concerned, creating decent work opportunities and leaving no one behind”.1.1 The case for mangrovesMangroves offer a powerful solution for the climate, nature and social crises A systemic approach to investing in mangroves will maximize investment opportunity, value and impact.
