Seven major job families face distinct
technological transformation, with varied
global impacts.
This white paper focuses on seven job families
that comprise the world’s largest workforces and
where impacts are likely to be greatest: agriculture,
manufacturing, construction, business and
management, wholesale and retail trade, transport
and logistics, and healthcare. Collectively, these
workforces make up almost 80% of the world’s workers, with differing concentrations across
economies at different income levels, as shown in
Figures 1 and 2. The following section discusses
characteristics of these workforces and assesses
the opportunities and challenges created by the
accelerated application of the four workforce-
transforming technologies identified in Chapter 1.
