This white paper focuses on seven job families that comprise the world’s largest workforces and where impacts are likely to be greatest: agriculture, manufacturing, construction, business and management, wholesale and retail trade, transport and logistics, and healthcare. Collectively, these workforces make up almost 80% of the world’s workers, with differing concentrations across economies at different income levels, as shown in Figures 1 and 2. The following section discusses characteristics of these workforces and assesses the opportunities and challenges created by the accelerated application of the four workforce- transforming technologies identified in Chapter 1.
