Diabetes Diabetes presents the most alarming trajectory among all NCDs. As Figure 11 shows, unadjusted diabetes DALYs increased universally between 2011 and 2021, with Canada experiencing the largest increase (+35.1%), followed by Poland (+34.5%), Greece (+32.6%), Japan (+27.4%) Germany (+26.9%), Spain (+15.7%), France (+12.1%), and Italy (+6.7%). More concerning still, age-adjusted rates also rose in seven of eight countries: Germany showed the largest age-adjusted increase (+22.5%), followed by Canada (+21.3%), Greece (+18.6%), Poland (+16.2%), Japan (+14.8%), Spain (+3.1%), and France (+2.4%).
