There are two sessions on Saturday and three on Sunday, all in the Gresham Room at the Ashland Public Library at 410 Siskiyou Blvd. The event is called "From Chaos to Calm." "My intention is to develop coping skills and emotional resilience for community members in advance of any catastrophe," Light said, "to help people make clear decisions in times of stress and emergency, to create an environment of support and caring, rather than fear and panic." The sessions are: • "Thinking from the Gut," 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday — Dr. Richard Alan Miller will lead a session to help get in touch with instincts during a crisis. Miller is a teacher of urban survival skills and former special skills trainer for U.S. Navy Seals. • "Neighbor to Neighbor — Coping in Today's World," noon to 5 p.m. Saturday — Instructor Carol Gross of the Portland chapter of the American Red Cross will talk about building psychological resilience — the ability to adaptively bounce back from challenges or adversity. Goals are to recognize stress in adults and children and how people react to it; to provide immediate support and offer coping skills to family members, friends, neighbors and others by using psychological first aid; and provide better emotional support in times of crisis. Registration for this session is suggested; call 541-708-6155. • "Seeing the Big Picture," noon to 1:45 p.m. Sunday — Asha Deliverance, president of Pacific Domes of Ashland, talks about seeing life challenges from a spiritual perspective. • "Keeping It Together," 2 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday — Personal evolution coach Jade Rehder leads exercises to release anxiety, make decisions form the heart, overcome fear and become calm and peaceful. • "Living from the Heart," 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday — Spiritual counselor Avram Sacks helps explore how trusting the heart can lead to a deeper connection with inner stillness. Exercises will be done to discover the connection between "communion" and creating more support and community. For more information, call Tarra Light at 541-708-6155.
