ACTIVISM Oregon Action plans protest in Ashland of Malheur occupation Oregon Action announces gathering Saturday afternoon Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Jan. 21, 2016 at 7:53 PM By Local report Posted Jan. 21, 2016 at 7:53 PM » Social News Oregon Action has announced a plan to rally in the Ashland Plaza at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, to support of the communities of Harney County and against the armed group that has occupied federal offices at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in south-eastern Oregon. Many residents of communities of Harney County, including the Burns Paiute Tribe whose ancestral lands and cultural sites sit on the Malheur Refuge, have said that they don’t support the occupation and want the militia to go home. “We cannot sit silent while armed militia and the ‘Patriot’ movement continues undermining the safety of our communities to advance an outside political agenda, regardless of whether that attack is in Grants Pass, Medford, or Burns,” says Alex Budd of Oregon Action. Last spring, a different armed, self-proclaimed militia attempted a standoff with the federal government at the Sugar Pine mine near Galice. Medford-based Oregon Action says it is a grassroots organization focused on issues affecting working people and communities, with chapters in Portland and Beaverton.
