ASHLAND ASHLAND: Fire destroys home in rural area south of town Comment By John Darling For the Tidings DailyTidings.com By John Darling For the Tidings Posted Mar. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM By John Darling For the Tidings Posted Mar. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News   A residence on Old Siskiyou Highway burned to the ground Saturday evening, as a result of a a lamp that was likely knocked over by pets, according to Capt. Aaron Bustard of Fire District 5, whose crews fought the blaze They found the single-story home fully involved, with fire coming out all windows, front and back, when they arrived at 8:08 p.m., he said. The resident, Michael Albrechtsen, noticed the fire while visiting a neighbor and called 911 at 8:02 p.m. Albrechtsen then battled the blaze with a garden hose, but was unsuccessful. No one was in the home at the time. “It was pretty severe damage and will probably have to be rebuilt,” said Bustard. “We knocked down the body of the fire pretty quickly.” After interviewing the resident, Bustard said it seemed most likely, looking at the site of fire origin, that pets had knocked over the lamp on the entertainment center, as they had in the past, and it landed on bedding material and set it ablaze.  The residence was just up from the highway loop, at 4415 Old Highway 99 South, about 11 miles south of Ashland. Fighting the fire were two structural engines and two water tenders from Fire District 5, two fire engines from Ashland FD and a water tender from Medford Fire.   By John Darling For the Tidings DailyTidings.com By John Darling For the Tidings Posted Mar. 10, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
