Scott, you’ve been closed this week. What’s going on? Yes, Monday through Friday to replace the hood over the stove with fire suppression technology that the Fire Marshal requires in order to enforce national standards. We’re also painting the dining area, so it will have a fresh, new look. We reopen at 7 (p.m.) Saturday with Montana Soul Trio. Can you describe your business? It’s kind of a locals place, a little out of the way, lots of people from the Railroad District drop in. Also others. It’s like “Cheers,” the TV show. Everyone knows your name, also each other’s names. Entertainment? We’ve got live music, the blues, soul, Motown, bluegrass, rock that people like. Jazz is on Sundays at 5. There’s no cover. The Hamazons theatrical improv group performs about mid-month each month. They are $12 and sell out. What’s the fare? Mostly the same as when Peter (Bolton) started it three years ago. It’s Irish and new American style food, with appetizers like quesadillas, toasties (cheese, meat and so forth, grilled). Six beers on tap, rotated. Bottled beers, wines, any mixed drinks. It’s a pub, a sort of sports bar? It’s a public house on the Irish model. You see them all over Europe. We have darts. We have trivia on Wednesday evenings at 7. Teams up to six people compete for a $25 gift certificate. It’s lots of fun. We have two big screen TVs with games on. (silent) Can you tell us about yourselves? I was a deputy sheriff for 25 years, in the jail section. Jeanette was in the family restaurant business — Espresso to Go and Donut Country, since she was young. How is the business doing? It’s successful so far, holding its own and getting more popular. Jeanette says she’s super-excited to reopen. Me, too.
