HOMELESS Volunteer training set Wednesday for Ashland homeless shelter hosts Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Nov. 10, 2015 at 6:49 PM By Local report Posted Nov. 10, 2015 at 6:49 PM » Social News Training for people who would like to volunteer to help shelter the homeless will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Calvin Hall at the Presbyterian Church at 1615 Clark Ave. (at Siskiyou Boulevard). Winter overnight and emergency shelters for Ashland's most vulnerable citizens will operate from Nov. 16 to April 14, organizers say. Four nights of no-frills shelter are planned for each week in four different locations. In addition to the regular weekly Monday through Thursday shelter nights, whenever the temperature is projected to drop below 20 degrees, the Ashland city administrator authorizes an emergency shelter. Volunteers are needed to offer these services. All volunteer hosts work in teams of at least two. Trainees review the protocols required to act as host at one of our shelters. Last year, with the help of 73 community volunteers, organizers provided 88 nights of shelter, and averaged more than 20 guests per night.
