Weather conditions caused the delay, and will also necessitate extended closure of trails in the 1,200-acre project area, Ashland Forest Resiliency Project managers have announced. Tolman Creek Road above and including Toothpick Trail and trails leading to Lamb Mine will be closed until later in January or possibly into February. Also closed are Catwalk, Marty's, Lamb Mine, Eastview and upper Caterpillar trails, as well as 2060 road at the Caterpillar Trail crossing between White Rabbit and Four Corners. Ecological restoration crews are thinning trees to improve forest health and reduce the risk of damaging wildfire in the Ashland Creek watershed. Helicopters are called in to lift logs off steeper slopes, which reduces the amount of soil damage. Helicopters were previously used in 2012 and 2013. Trails on the west side of the watershed accessed through Granite Street remain open.
