"Gather" is metallic modern art. It breaks design rules to place metallic art on the eastern compass side of Ashland, which is the wood element. Metal cuts down the eastern wood element, and any metallic art should be located on the western side of town, where metal is regenerative to the earth. The bronze totem pole is already appropriately located on the western side of town, and is both historically appropriate and in keeping with feng shui art principles. Art placed on the eastern end of town should feature tall rectangular wooden elements such as trees and possibly a water fountain surrounded by roses or other beautiful flora, or water jet sprays that the children of pedestrians could enjoy. It should be a lovely garden setting with colored lights on the fountain and flowers, to welcome those who enter. The ceramic element of art tiles by the library are fitting. Placement of artful non-metallic carvings of forest wildlife, such as bear, cougar, deer, birds, butterflies or honeybees would bring auspicious prosperity to the eastern doorway to historic downtown. "Shakespeare Town" has a lot of Asian tourists, and to dishonor feng shui principles of design placement is rude of the Public Art Commission. Our Mayor for Peace should want Ashland to have feng shui, prosperity with Japan and our Asian neighbors across the ocean. Nancy Nelson Ashland Call the governor Yes! Call the governor, 1-503-378-4582, to stop the pipeline. Following are points you can make: 1. Precedents: In 2010, former Gov. Ted Kulongoski prevented an LNG hub, and two state agencies have stopped two other LNG proposals in Oregon. 2. File a petition for a re-hearing of the pipeline proposal. It would require the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to re-evaluate the impacts of the project. "Some of the biggest impacts on public safety, climate, streams and waterways haven't been evaluated at all," says Sarah Westover, point person for Rogue Riverkeeper. 3. If the FERC refuses to re-evaluate, you can take them to court. 4. Fossil fuels are on the way out. Stand up for green energy, and the huge number of jobs it will provide. 5. The 200 promised permanent jobs would not go to local folks; qualified outsiders would hold them. 6. People do adjust to circumstances. Nature would never be able to restore herself from pipeline devastation. 7. Your legacy will set a glowing example for Oregon and the U.S. 8. Deny the pipeline. We need a critical mass of Oregonians to stop this project. Stand up to be counted. Make that call.
