The public is invited to join renowned Japanese Garden designer Toru Tanaka as he guides a tour for the Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Japanese-style garden in Lithia Park. This tour is a special APRC meeting to further discuss the remodel of the Japanese-style garden into an authentic, larger and more diverse Japanese garden. After Tanaka’s presentation last week to APRC, it was decided that an on-site visit would give the commission a better sense of the renovation. Jeff Mangin, one of the donors for the project, said he encourages the public to come out because he wants the garden to reflect the community and he wants the whole process to be as transparent as possible. The Japanese-style garden is at 185 Winburn Way between the upper duck ponds and the Butler Bandshell on the Granite Street side of the park, beside the Sycamore Grove.
