Why leaving pets in a hot car is a bad idea Comment Posted May. 14, 2015 @ 10:36 am It’s never a good idea to leave a pet in a hot (or warm) car while you run inside “real quick.” You could be arrested for animal cruelty, your pet could get sick or even die, or strangers might break your windows to save the hot animal. Here’s what you should know about pets and hot cars: Cars can get real hot real quick. The Humane Society says, “On an 85-degree day, for example, the temperature inside a car with the windows opened slightly can reach 102 degrees within 10 minutes.” On a 72-degree day with closed windows, the car can get to 116 degrees in one hour, United Animal Nations says. Wikimedia Commons Cats and other pets shouldn’t be left in cars alone, but dogs especially are susceptible to heat-related issues, according to UAN. They can suffer problems in a very short time in excessive heat. It’s not just the heat, either. High humidity can have a deleterious effect as well. Wikimedia Commons The Humane Society’s advice is pretty clear: “Never leave your pets in a parked car. Not even for a minute. Not even with the car running and air conditioner on.” /* $( document ).ready(function() { // Jquery mobile is trying to style the button and leaving a blank gry button on top of a white button $("#viafouracoms .vf-comment-controls li.vf-right").html(' Submit '); });*/ CONTENT DOM: Anchor dom must be placed just above the content dom in order for sticky styles and functionality to apply --> » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
