THEATER 'Leading Ladies' opens at Ashland High School Thursday Comedy features more than 40 students Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Mar. 4, 2015 at 2:26 PM Updated Mar 4, 2015 at 7:17 PM Posted Mar. 4, 2015 at 2:26 PM Updated Mar 4, 2015 at 7:17 PM » Social News Local reports Ashland High School Theatre presents the comedy "Leading Ladies" in eight performances, with the first show scheduled for tonight. The eight performances will show at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays  through Saturdays, March 5-15, with one matinee  at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15.  The play by Ken Ludwig focuses on two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, who find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing "Scenes from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an elderly woman in York, Pa. is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long-lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. But when they get to York, they find out that the relatives aren't nephews, but nieces. Romantic entanglements abound. The comedy has been described as “Some Like It Hot meets Twelfth Night.” Playwright Ludwig's works include "Crazy For You," "Lend Me A Tenor," "Moon Over Buffalo" and "The Three Musketeers." The Cleveland Plain Dealer described “Leading Ladies" as "a highly combustible and continuously hilarious comedy by Ken Ludwig, Broadway's reigning comic writer." The San Diego Union-Tribune noted that Ludwig's writing provides "a laugh-a-second (yes, they do come that fast)." (Note to parents, the play is recommended for ages 11 and up.) Directed by Liisa Ivary, "Leading Ladies" involves more than 40 students. Featured actors are Jonathan Connolly, Liam Atkins, Christine Impara, Jackson Richmond, Caitlin Campbell, Zoe Lishinsky, Preston Mead, David Lee, Tristan Ferris, Avram Rosewood, Kyle Storie, Marissa Lawrence, Sierra Milburn, Ceili Widmann, Taylor McMahon-Kelly, Alex Welden, Audrey Cirzon and Kacey Ottenbacher, Assisting Ivary are Betsy Bishop, the producer, and Suzanne Seiber, the choreographer.
