A: It’s mostly guitars, all used and a lot of them consigned. I repair guitars and I teach guitar here daily after 3:30. I buy a lot of guitars that are destined for the landfill — instruments no one would fix up, then I sell them. I don’t have any expensive guitars for sale. I have lots of $150 guitars. They are vetted, used, starter guitars and if they don’t play right, I will fix them. Q: Tell us about yourself. A: I’m from Atlanta, got to Ashland in 1999. My wife Dee and I have three children. I used to work as a carpenter, both in construction and doing finish cabinet work. I work evenings long hours fixing up guitars. Q: What do you love? A: I love playing guitar and have been doing it 25 years. I love doing the fine woodwork on guitars. (He demonstrates how he’s reaffixing the neck on a century-old banjo, shaping a new dowel inside the neck so it can arrive at a better angle with the strings.) I’m not sure if I’m a natural retailer. I do best with lessons and repair. They’ve been nothing but good to me. Q: We see live jams on Sundays here. A: Yes, we’ve been doing that and it’s fun, but I need to keep the store open and going so it will be occasional and with email notices from now on.
