Ashland High senior Clara Honsinger won an OISRA state championship in the 5.1-kilometer classic on Feb. 22 and placed second in the 5.5k freestyle on Feb. 21 at Mount Bachelor to lead the Grizzlies’ nordic ski team in its final event of the season. Honsinger cross the finish line in the 5.1k in 17 minutes, 8 seconds, 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Phacelia Cramer of South Eugene. Honsinger finished the freestyle in 15:27 and Cramer in 15:40. Honsinger finished second to Cramer in the freestyle-classic combined. Ashland’s Erik Oline was the Grizzlies’ top boys skier, placing eighth in the 5.1k classic in 16:18.
