The adopted son of Reverend Wakefield, Roger is an Oxford professor who plays an extremely important role in Claire ( Caitriona Balfe ) and Jamie's ( Sam Heughan ) lives moving forward. Rankin was most recently seen opposite Bradley Cooper in Burnt . His previous credits include The Syndicate , From Darkness , The Crimson Field and American Odyssey .
