LOCAL ROUNDUP Sanderson, Mustangs advance to regional final four Ashland High senior-to-be has four hits, key double Comment By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings Follow @@Joe_Zavala99 DailyTidings.com By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings Follow @@Joe_Zavala99 Posted Aug. 5, 2016 at 6:45 PM By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings Follow @@Joe_Zavala99 Posted Aug. 5, 2016 at 6:45 PM » Social News Nick Sanderson had four hits, including a key three-run double, and Jordan Ragan and Greyson Wolff combined to limit Cheyenne Post 6 to one run as the Medford Mustangs avoided elimination in the American Legion AAA Northwest Regional with a 11-1, eight-inning victory Friday at Powers Field in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The lopsided win earned Medford a final-four date today against either Billings, Montana or Kennewick, Washington, with the winner of that game advancing to the final day of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament. Cheyenne was eliminated. The Mustangs, who suffered an extra-inning loss to Billings Thursday, scored two in the first and one in the third to take a 3-1 lead against Cheyenne. That was still the score in the bottom of the fifth after Cheyenne opted to intentionally walk Josh Berman to load the bases for Sanderson. The Ashland High senior-to-be made the hosts pay, ripping a double into the gap to clear the bases and give the defending regional champion Mustangs a 6-1 lead. Sanderson added two more RBI singles and finished 4-for-5 with five RBIs to lead Medford’s 13-hit attack. Tate Cowden and Berman added two hits apiece, and Joe Johnson had a triple for Medford, which won by the 10-run mercy rule for the second time in three days. Medford starter Jordan Ragan surrendered one run on seven hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked two. Wolff blanked Cheyenne on two hits with four strikeouts in the last two innings. Cheyenne stranded 13 runners and left the bases loaded in the third. Cheyenne took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but it didn’t last. In the bottom of the inning, Berman doubled to deep center to score Cowden and tie the game, and Sanderson drove in Berman moments later to give the Mustangs the lead for good.
