We asked attendees at the gala event, “What was your favorite film and why?”  Jeanne Taylor — It was “Listen to Me Marlon.” I didn’t realize the many facets of the man. He was so compassionate and caring about causes like Vietnam and Native Americans. You could see the tragedy of his patents, the damage from his family. I felt he realized, finally, after all that therapy, that his best analyst was himself. He used his audio tapes from his whole life to go within and self-counsel. Janet Boggia — Mine was “When Giants Fall,” about the killing off of the elephants. That was, to me, the most important thing. Ivory is like the sex trade and the arms trade, in the way it works the desires of people for ill. If people didn’t want the ivory, there wouldn’t be a market for it. It’s based on a very false idea of beauty. Gerald Hirschfelt — (noted cinematographer and Ashlander) For me it was “Proud Citizen” (about a Bulgarian filmmaker going through culture shock as she shows her movie in Kentucky). I really liked the atmosphere as she played against her environment here and at last meets a man in an on-and-off relationship. Brenda Mead — I loved “In Football We Trust,” a documentary, a heartfelt story of students in Tonga trying to get in the NFL. It was amazing. I loved the kids and seeing what happens in their lives. It was about family and trying to become stars in football.
