The city of Ashland is looking for public feedback. Recreational use of marijuana becomes legal on July 1 in Oregon for adults 21 years old and older. Retail sales for recreational use will not become legal until January. Under the law passed by voters in November, recreational users are allowed to grow up to four plants per household. Plants are not allowed to be visible from a public place. Growing marijuana for medicinal purposes by those with a medical use card is already legal. The city has received some complaints from residents about the skunk-like odor mature plants can give off. Some growers have, the city says, been cited under the existing noxious odor ordinance. With the possibility of increased cultivation of marijuana under the new law, the city is considering formulating restrictions on outdoor pot growing and is asking for comments to be submitted by April 17. To comment, go to the Ashland city website at www.ashland.or.us/ and find the “Open City Hall” link under “Hot Topics” heading.
