Ashland Fire Adapted Communities Coordinator Alison Lerch picked up the new 2016 Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid vehicle on April 13. The vehicle replaces a 2002 Ford Explorer which got 17 miles per gallon in town. On one charge, the Volt will run for 53 miles without using any gasoline. This will save money for the department and reduce carbon emissions while in electric mode, the department said in a news release. The majority of the trips using the Volt will be within city limits, which will allow for all-electric usage. According to chevrolet.com , the car is expected to run for 1,000 miles between fill-ups with regular charging.
