This is such a common question for people of all faiths and traditions. But a lot of people are afraid to ask their spiritual leader, "Why?" When spiritual leaders are posed this question, we hear many types of answers: • You don’t have enough faith. • It’s your karma. • Pray harder. • God is angry. • Go back and read your scripture more. • You have sinned. • You are allowing enough. • You don’t deserve it. • And many more. As we have discussed previously, one of the major tenets in almost all traditions is that God, the Universe, Spirit, Source Energy, or God-Goddess-All-There-Is, is or has Unconditional Love. This is regardless of whether one subscribes to an anthropomorphic god or not. (That is a whole other discussion.) The bottom line is that the nature of “God” is Unconditional Love. If Unconditional Love is the true nature of God, then it follows that Spirit: 1. Is not emotional. 2. Does not have an ego. 3. Doesn’t keep score. 4. Does not play favorites. 5. Does not judge. 6. Does not ask to read a certain scripture, or read it more. 7. Does not need to be worshiped (even to a greater degree). In fact, if a god would need any of these things, God would not be a god, it would be something less than a God. If we accept that God is or has Unconditional Love, the above aspects would not apply, as these are examples of conditional love . One might ask: “If God loves me unconditionally, then why doesn’t (He, She, It) give me everything I want and/or pray for?" This is where the Law of Attraction comes in. The Law of Attraction works equally well for everyone. It does not play favorites or judge or anything of the like. Wayne Dyer defines the Law of Attraction like this: ““The law of attraction is this: You don’t attract what you want. You attract what you are.” When I was in my youth, I was taught that you manifested something by “becoming it.” So how do I “become a new car”? In answer to this question, I was told things like: • You have to have or be the mental equivalent. • You have to believe that you have it first. • What you think about comes about. • It is done unto you as you believe. • Act as if …. • Visualize it. • In addition, many more I am sure you have heard too. I came to the point that, ultimately, it was your consciousness, whatever it was at the moment. Now, this is very true, but needs some further exploration. I have seen so many people, including myself, praying, saying affirmations, begging, beseeching and making deals with the Universe for something they want. They know that the Law of Attraction will bring it to them … but it didn’t. Why not? We know that God’s love is unconditional, and the Law of Attraction works absolutely … so what’s up? Well, the Law of Attraction is, in fact, at work here. We need to ask the question, what is the state of our consciousness at the time we are praying or intending something? As we are asking for something when we are in a state of lack, neediness or feeling diminished. If we want more abundance (including money), are we asking for it with a focus and feeling of not having enough? If we want to manifest a life partner, lover, friend, do we do it from a feeling of loneliness, being unhappy, and looking at our lives as empty? Have you ever tried to do an Affirmation when feeling depressed? It doesn’t work! In all these examples, the Law of Attraction is working perfectly. It brings us more of the same of what we are at the moment. What we are is our consciousness, our state of mind, the vibration of our being. So then how do we pray, how do we do our affirmations? ONLY pray, affirm or focus on what you want when you are feeling good, happy, in joy about what you want. Do whatever you need to do to get happy, or at least in a better mood: • Have some ice cream. • Watch a favorite movie. • Call a good friend, not to talk about your lack of unhappiness, but to laugh and share love. • Pet your dog or cat. • Meditate. • Take a walk in nature. • Make love with your lover or mate. • Sit in your hot tub. My favorite is to give thanks for all the things in your life that you appreciate. Do this before you go to sleep, when you wake up in the morning and just before you pray, meditate or do affirmations. I guarantee that you will no longer need to ask why your prayers are not answered.
