Jacquot Posted May. 26, 2015 at 7:46 PM Updated May 26, 2015 at 7:47 PM »  Social News Residents of Ashland near Lithia Park were surprised Saturday morning to discover three unexpected visitors during had arrived on Memorial Day weekend. A mama bear and her two cubs were caught off guard by the early morning human activities, leaving them no time to retreat from downtown Ashland. They took refuge on a tall tree on Nutley Street between Pine and Granite streets where they spent the entire day. The police came to mark a safety perimeter around the tree, but also to protect pedestrians from bear's droppings. There were many visitors during the day and mama bear was a bit stressed by all those curious but well-intentioned humans. The cubs killed the day climbing up and down the tree but later in the day one could hear them complaining about their situation. Luckily, during the night of Saturday to Sunday, they left their refuge and hopefully are safe back in the wild. The neighbors will just need to secure their trash cans a bit more tightly, as this bear family had such a good time visiting them that they did not see the hours pass and dawn caught them off guard.
