The first segment of the hour-long “Think Out Loud” radio program focuses on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which celebrates its 80th year this season. Questions up for discussion include: How does the festival alone define the town? How has the little, former lumber town in southern Oregon changed over the last 80 years? And what impact has the iconic theater festival had on the town? Guests included Micheal Dawkins, Ashland planning commissioner; George Kramer, a historic preservation consultant; Denise Baxter, executive director and founder of the Ashland Arts Center; and Eric Levin, chairman of Southern Oregon University’s theater program. The second segment is a news roundtable with Gary Nelson, editorial page editor of the Medford Mail Tribune and Ashland Daily Tidings; and Geoffrey Riley, news director for Jefferson Public Radio and host of “The Jefferson Exchange.” Topics include the county ban on GMO crops, crafting of recreational marijuana rules and federal common core testing rules.
