The agency has instituted a red flag warning until 11 p.m. tonight for eastern Jackson and Douglas counties, Klamath and Lake counties, and a swath of Northern California that reaches almost to Mount Shasta. "Increasing thunderstorm activity will create erratic fire behavior and new fire starts," a weather service message reads. "Abundant lightning on existing dry fuels could cause numerous new fire ignitions. And erratic outflow winds could also create explosive fire growth potential." Chances for thunderstorm activity are currently forecast through Friday, though temperatures are expected to hover in the high-80s and low 90s range, with nighttime lows anticipated in the 60s.   As many as 125 air-to-ground strikes already touched down around parts of Jackson County overnight Sunday into Monday, weather officials reported. Oregon Department of Forestry maps show the activity largely clustered around parts of the Ashland Watershed, an area just west of Wagner Butte, portions of the Greensprings, Howard Prairie Lake and Hyatt Lake.  ODF crews found just one lightning-sparked fire overnight, a small patch about one-hundredth of an acre in size in the Ashland Creek area. "Generally, it came with lots of rain and there were a lot of fog pockets reported in the areas after," an ODF message reads.  Meteorologist Marc Spilde expects overnight lightning to be essentially a repeat in terms of where lightning will strike.   "I think the vast majority of activity, again, will be over the mountains," he said.  Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] .
