The first exchange was in Guanajuato in 2015; this second get-together, hosted by Ashland's team, features a four-team tournament. It all kicks off tonight with the Guanajuato group's arrival. Pan: The arrest of a Jackson County medical marijuana dispensary owner in northern California for allegedly transporting marijuana into California for sale. Daniel Lee Gilbert, owner of dispensaries in Shady Cove and Medford, faces felony charges in Siskiyou County. If Gilbert is guilty, it's a black mark on a legal Oregon industry that is supposed to be about providing an alternative to prescription medications, not feeding the black market across the state line. Pick: New signs marking the three main routes into Ashland are an improvement over the old ones, despite criticism from some self-appointed arbiters of taste. The new signs feature a top edge that mimics the ridgelines of the hills above town, and the word "AShLaND" in a mix of upper- and lower-case letters. Not everyone is a fan, but we like them. Pick: The Mt. Ashland Ski Area's new solar panels, being installed starting next week. The project will produce about 12 percent of the ski area's power use. Although more solar generation takes place in summer, Mt. Ashland will get credit from Pacific Power toward its winter electricity use.
