KIWANIS CLUB OF ASHLAND Kiwanis Club honors two Ashland High School students Comment By Ron Parker Kiwanis Club of Ashland DailyTidings.com By Ron Parker Kiwanis Club of Ashland Posted May. 26, 2015 at 7:17 PM Updated May 26, 2015 at 7:18 PM By Ron Parker Kiwanis Club of Ashland Posted May. 26, 2015 at 7:17 PM Updated May 26, 2015 at 7:18 PM » Social News Ashland Kiwanis is pleased to honor Ryne Robitz and Kai Loewenstein as its April and May Students of the Month, respectively. Both are seniors at Ashland High School. Ryne has come before the Ashland Kiwanis Club in the recent past to tell us about his senior project, along with another student. They are determined to purchase an automatic defibrillator for the high school. Ryne has navigated his way through AHS in an exemplary fashion, and he has been selected to the Annapolis Naval Academy after a year-long process; he was nominated by three state legislators. He will begin this experience as a plebe this summer, and he will major in Electrical Engineering. Ryne will also train to become an aviator. Kai was born in Chicago and homeschooled through the eighth grade. Kai moved to Ashland from Mt. Shasta, Calif., in 2011. In 2010, Kai started writing novels, and has continued since then. In 2013, Kai began soliciting services as an artist, and this has turned into Kai’s main source of income in recent years. A few of Kai’s interests include guitar lessons, vocal lessons, rock climbing and writing novels. Along with these interests, Kai has joined the following clubs: creative writing club, Key Club, change project, and Queer/Straight Alliance. Community service includes: Chautauqua poets and writing, salmon festival, food bank, and Special Olympics. Kai has been recognized as extremely organized. Kai’s senior project was to get local restaurants to consider gender neutral restrooms, and this effort has met with some success. Kai has been accepted at Oregon State University and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering. Both students received $50 in cash, along with an award certificate. Kiwanis honors senior students from AHS each month during the school year.  To learn more about Kiwanis, visit ashlandkiwanis.org or call Ron at 541-488-0532.   By Ron Parker Kiwanis Club of Ashland DailyTidings.com By Ron Parker Kiwanis Club of Ashland Posted May. 26, 2015 at 7:17 PM Updated May 26, 2015 at 7:18 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
