The passage of the RFRA — which prohibits state laws that “burden” a person’s ability to follow his or her religious beliefs — was met with widespread criticism after Gov. Mike Pence signed the act late last month. SURVEY SAYS The 2015 Religious Understandings of Science survey conducted by researcher Elaine Ecklund and colleagues at Rice University’s Religion & Public Life Program found that 48 percent of evangelicals believe that science and religion can work together. The study polled 10,000 Americans on their religious beliefs, focusing on evangelical Christians.
