State certifies recount showing failure of GMO-labeling measure Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Dec. 16, 2014 at 2:02 PM Updated Dec 16, 2014 at 2:46 PM Posted Dec. 16, 2014 at 2:02 PM Updated Dec 16, 2014 at 2:46 PM » RELATED CONTENT • GMO opponents ask for seat at defense table » Social News SALEM — Oregon's secretary of state has certified recount results that show the defeat of a ballot measure to require labels on genetically modified foods. Kate Brown's certification Monday makes the results of the recount official. They show the measure was defeated by 837 votes out of more than 1.5 million cast. That's a margin of less than 0.06 percent. The recount was automatically triggered by the close margin. The hand tally showed an additional 167 votes, with a net gain of 25 no votes. Oregon becomes the fourth state in the West to reject a labeling requirement for GMOs, following Colorado, California and Washington. Proponents conceded defeat last week. — Associated Press DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Dec. 16, 2014 at 2:02 PM Updated Dec 16, 2014 at 2:46 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with DailyTidings.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Alerts Email alerts RSS feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
