WOMEN'S SOCCER Raiders take stock after key injury, prep for nonleague games Comment By SOU Sports Information DailyTidings.com By SOU Sports Information Posted Aug. 31, 2015 at 8:30 PM By SOU Sports Information Posted Aug. 31, 2015 at 8:30 PM » Social News The Southern Oregon University women's soccer team is home this week only during the month of September for nonleague games Wednesday against Simpson (Calif.) and Thursday against Oregon Tech. The loss of a key forward, which has forced the Raiders (0-1-1 overall) to alter their plan of attack, will give them plenty to work on. Both matches begin at 6 p.m. at Raider Stadium. SOU started the season with a 1-1 draw at Menlo (Calif.) on Aug. 20. Megan McArthur, SOU's points leader in 2014 (13), scored the equalizer in the 84th minute. Two days later, in the Raiders' 2-1 loss at William Jessup (Calif.), McArthur went down during the second half and is out indefinitely. The loss of McArthur — not to mention the absences of forwards Kendra Madaras-Kelly, who is using a redshirt season to rehab an injury, and Chloe Welch, who has not yet been healthy enough to crack the lineup — has forced third-year head coach Jenni Rosenberg to get creative, and will give some other Raiders the chance to step up. After this week, SOU's only nonleague contests remaining are Sept. 7 at Stanislaus State (Calif.) and Sept. 9 at California Merced. QUICK HITS : • The Raiders were outshot in their first two matches, 19-15 total and 15-12 on goal. A total of nine Raiders got shots off. • Senior midfielder Allyson Ward, a defensive specialist and All-Cascade Conference performer in 2014, scored her first career goal at William Jessup. It was an equalizer in the 49th minute, though SOU would go on to allow the go-ahead score six minutes later. • Six players made their SOU debuts in the first two games: Kylie Durant, Sarah Garoutte, Megan Kapp, Serena Robertson, Makena Totushek and Yvonne Valencia. • With her next shutout, junior goalkeeper Kylie Moltzen will move into third-place on the school's career shutouts list with 10. Jessica Kuehlwein (2008-11) holds the record with 14. • SOU only began playing at Raider Stadium for its last three games of 2014, going 1-1-1 on the new artificial field turf. ABOUT SIMPSON (0-1) : SOU leads the all-time series against the Redhawks, 6-1... The teams didn't meet in 2014 but the Raiders outscored them 16-0 the previous four seasons... Simpson opened this season with a 6-0 loss at William Jessup after last year going 2-14 overall and 0-7 in the California Pacific Conference. ABOUT OREGON TECH (1-1) : The Owls started this season with a 3-0 loss at UC Merced, followed by a 3-0 win over Northwest Christian in which Cody White scored two goals off the bench... Among the Owls' top returners are Tarryn Miyaruma (All-CCC honorable mention, 4 goals and 2 assists) and Bailey Tehan (All-CCC honorable mention, 3 goals)... Brandon Porter is OIT's first-year head coach after spending the past four seasons as an assistant at Northern Arizona University... The Owls went 5-10-2 overall and 0-7-2 in the CCC last season... SOU and OIT will meet for a CCC match on Oct. 16 in Klamath Falls.
