On Tuesday, Ashland police arrested Matthew Hokulii Aranda, 31, of the first block of South Mountain Avenue, Ashland, on felony charges of coercion, first- and second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, two charges of second-degree sexual abuse, and delivery of a Schedule I and a Schedule II controlled substance to a minor. According to an Ashland Police Department press release issued late Thursday afternoon, a Jackson County Grand Jury added charges of first-degree rape and stalking on Thursday. According to an information document filed in the case, the crimes occurred between March 1, 2015, and Jan. 3. Aranda allegedly coerced the female victim into sexual intercourse and other acts by telling the victim that he would physically harm the victim or her family. A phone call to police about whether all charges in the case relate to a single victim or multiple juveniles wasn't immediately returned, but according to the release, police believe the charges stem from a relationship Aranda developed with a female juvenile. Aranda remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail Thursday evening on $250,000 bail. According to court records, a preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 13 in Jackson County Circuit Court. Detectives say they believe Aranda has other victims, and police are asking them to come forward by calling the police station at 541-482-5211, the police department's anonymous tip line or by emailing [email protected].
