SOU-OIT softball games moved to Wednesday Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Apr. 6, 2015 at 8:42 PM Posted Apr. 6, 2015 at 8:42 PM » Social News This week's Cascade Conference softball games between Southern Oregon University and 13th-ranked Oregon Tech have been moved to Wednesday at 2 and 4 p.m. at University Field. The doubleheader had been scheduled to be played today, but a rain-filled forecast forced the change. SOU enters the contests with a record of 26-18 overall and 7-9 in the CCC, while first-place OIT is 30-9 and 14-3. Both teams are also slated to host Northwest Christian and Corban on Friday and Saturday.   Track and Field Southern Oregon University's Eric Ghelfi and Jessie Rozario were named Cascade Conference Red Lion Athletes of the Week on Monday after record-breaking performances at Friday's San Francisco State Distance Carnival, and Markus Sanders earned the same honor for his work at the Stanford Invitational. Ghelfi, a senior from Redding, Calif., got the men's track honor. Rozario, a senior from Rocklin, Calif., got the women's track honor. And Sanders, a senior from Modesto, Calif., attained the men's field award. Ghelfi ran a 10,000-meter time of 30:24.90 that broke the school record by 15 seconds, gave him the top NAIA time by more than 20 seconds and was a PR by 26 seconds. He was 10th of 88 runners in the race and became an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Championships. Rozario broke an 11-year-old school record and hit an NAIA 'A' qualifying standard in the 1,500-meter race. She was in last place with 500 meters left in the race but a big final kick gave her the win and a time of 4:36.50. She finished 10th overall in a field of 122 athletes. Sanders made his season debut at the Stanford Invitational and became an NAIA automatic qualifier in two disciplines, landing at No. 6 on the NAIA performance list in the hammer (178 feet 8 inches) and No. 8 in the discus (161-2). He is a returning All-American in both events. — SOU Sports Information.
