Ashland trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth but rallied to win its home opener and improve to 2-0 on the season. Jerry Carroll jump-started the Grizzlies’ sixth-inning rally with a leadoff single. He stole second base and scored easily when Hamik, a junior catcher, walloped a line drive over the left-fielder’s head for a double. TarQuin Daley drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the go-ahead run and leadoff hitter Caleb Bell followed that up with a sacrifice fly to drive in an insurance run. Ashland senior pitcher Kyle Milgram handled the top of the Grants Pass batting lineup in the seventh, notching back-to-back strikeouts, allowing a single, and inducing a ground-out to wrap up a complete-game performance. Grants Pass, coming off a 2-1 win over Crater, fell to 1-1. Milgram gave up two earned runs while striking out five for Ashland, which hosts South Medford on Saturday. “Milgram was sharp,” Ashland coach Mike Kenask said. “He pounded the stike zone and he let his fielder’s do the work behind him.” Bell, a junior shortstop, was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Nick Sanderson added a double and Jesse Carroll an RBI single in the fourth. “We showed our solitude as a team by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to come back for a win before Milgram nailed it down,” Kenask said.
