ROTARY CLUB OF ASHLAND Birch-Bridges named Student of the Month Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Nov. 12, 2015 at 8:37 PM By Local report Posted Nov. 12, 2015 at 8:37 PM » Social News The Rotary Club of Ashland has announced the nomination of Sophia Birch-Bridges as the Rotary Student of the Month for November. She will be presented her award at the regular club meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19. Birch-Bridges has been acclaimed by her teachers and counselor for her high academic standing and active leadership, the club said in a statement. She has maintained a 3.97 grade point average and maintained perfect attendance. She has taken several advanced placement classes as well as upper division Spanish, math and science classes. Birch-Bridges extracurricular activities have included a Leadership Program involving beautification of the school campus, homecoming festivities and a talent show. She has been a volunteer counselor in the "Fresh Start" program welcoming new students to Ashland High School and is a student tutor assisting struggling students. The school staff values her input and she has been a student representative in the interviews of new hires in the school district. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and Alpha Mu Theta math honor society, as well as numerous school clubs and has been a volunteer for the Ashland Independent Film Festival. Birch-Bridges is also an accomplished and exhibited artist. She presently has an exhibition showing at South Stage Cellars in Jacksonville.
