LIONS CLUB Vision care program gets $1,000 boost Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Jun. 9, 2015 at 7:38 PM By Local report Posted Jun. 9, 2015 at 7:38 PM » Social News The Ashland Lions Club presented a check for $1,000 to Doug Thompson of the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation during the annual “Keep the Promise Campaign” breakfast on Thursday, June 4, in Ashland. Pete Jorgensen of the Lions Club presented the check, continuing the Lions' 90-year tradition of supporting sight and preservation services (including vision screening in schools) that dates back to a promise made by national Lions Clubs to Helen Keller that they would take up her cause. The Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation provides sight and hearing services  surgeries and treatments to people in need living in Oregon and Northern California. The Foundation’s Patient Care/Mission Cataract programs, in partnership with the Retina and Vitreous Center of Southern Oregon, have served 91 patients in Southern Oregon since 2002. This assistance translates to $81,550 provided by OLSHF and Lions' fundraising. The $1,000 donation will help to continue the work of the foundation. The Ashland Lions raise funds for these donations with their many annual efforts, including the Feast of Will, July 4 barbecue and Southern Oregon Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Show.
