Event to honor Peace House awardees Wednesday Oct 25, 2017 at 5:49 PM Oct 25, 2017 at 5:49 PM Local report Peace House in Ashland will recognize its 2017 Peacemaker awardees as it celebrates its 35th year. The event starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Grizzly Peak Winery in Ashland. The awardees are: • Dot Fisher Smith, activist for the environment and for peace; • Dr. Herbert Rothschild, community organizer and long-time advocate of civil rights and nuclear disarmament; and • The Racial Equity Coalition, addressing racial bias through communication and community action. The keynote speaker will be Asha Deliverance. A midwife, activist, innovator and mother of Taliesin Myrrdin Namkai-Meche, she has been speaking to communities affected by white supremacy. Since her son’s death, Deliverance has been speaking and developing “We Choose Love,” an emerging global organization with a mission statement honoring diversity and underlining the need not just for meditation, but for activism toward a positive society.  Peace House will also honor the three heroes of the Portland Max Train hate crime that occurred March 27, 2017, in which Namkai-Meche and Ricky John Best were killed.
