As many of you know, I have a passion for baseball, especially pitching, as well as working with young players. I love to see them develop a love for baseball and sports, develop their skills to the fullest, and possibly use those skills at the next level. Part of my routine during baseball season is to attend as many games as I can on Saturday to try and see as many of my pitchers as possible. Recently, I went down to attend my usual doubleheader. I had barely set up when I saw a ceremony starting on the field. Two of my friends and fellow baseball devotees, Karen Resnick and Jeff Schlecht, were getting ready to honor someone. And then they were calling my name. To all of you who knew about this, I want you to know that I knew absolutely nothing about this until this very moment. When Karen asked me to come forward, I thought it was probably to throw out the first pitch. After she read some very kind words about me, she then presented my wife and me with the funds to go to New York City and the nearby Baseball Hall of Fame. Both are lifelong dreams of mine, but ones I hadn't yet fulfilled. Jackie and I were both speechless, surprised and grateful beyond words. I've always worked with young people and enjoyed it so much. Just to be able to help someone reach their goals is so rewarding to me. If this gift had never been given, I have already been repaid in countless ways over the years. But for the community to do this for us reminds us once again how fortunate we are to live in such a generous, loving and appreciative community. Throughout this time I've spent over many years working with players, I've met some of the finest people a person could ever meet. I feel so blessed to have played even a small part in those young people's lives. Their successes, no matter how small, have given me much satisfaction. So, to all of you who so generously gave to make this trip a reality, we both say, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Little did we know that when we came here almost 40 years ago, that we had just moved to such a supportive and appreciative community. I know there were some contributors who I hadn't seen in years, and others who I don't even know. But no matter what, words are inadequate to express our gratitude.
