The exhibit exploring the science of sports reopens today, Wednesday, at ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum. A series of hands-on challenges allows visitors to test their athletic abilities while learning how their bodies work. Interactive exhibits encourage visitors to explore, compare and experiment with the human parameters behind sports they love. “Sports are an important part of our lives, and by many accounts, are directly linked to health, self-esteem and community building,” says Executive Director Chip Lindsey. “Especially in this region, sports bring us together and celebrate this great machine we call our body.” Sportsology introduces the science of the human body through popular pastimes and promotes healthy choices and increased body awareness. Through this common experience, Sportsology encourages hands-on explorations that test visitor’s levels of fitness and athletic ability, including strength, speed, endurance, balance, coordination and agility. Some of the major exhibits, including the vertical vault, action-reaction wall, great grip and the wheelchair racer, have been refurbished and revitalized after appearing at the San Diego Hall of Champions. Other exhibits in Sportsology, including the popular pitching cage and hang time, are ScienceWorks originals. ScienceWorks has received national and international attention for the quality of its exhibits, some of which it has sold to museums in Singapore, Belgium and Calgary, as well as dozens of US museums. The Sportsology exhibition will be available through the winter for school field trips as well as the general public. ScienceWorks is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday.  Admission is $7 for children ages 2 to 12 and seniors 65 and older, and $9 for adults.
