Nearly 1,000 Ashland and Talent residents lost electricity Wednesday evening, but Pacific Power officials said power was restored by 9 p.m. Wednesday . A separate outage affecting about 1,000 east Medford customers — caused by a tree-downed power line in the 5000 block of East 10th Street — was resolved just after 8 p.m. Wednesday. A second short-lived power outage hit parts of east and south Medford Thursday afternoon after a tree limb fell on a line.That 12:32 p.m. outage lasted until just before 1 p.m. and affected 998 customers. More than 300 customers remained without power in nearby Josephine County, down from the original number of close to 3,000. Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon logs show area fire departments responded to eight downed power line reports around the Rogue Valley between 5:45 p.m. Wednesday and 12:34 p.m. Thursday. National Weather Service officials said wind gusts in Medford got up to 47 mph overnight, while Ashland gusts reached 41 mph. Eagle Point wind gusts got up to 31 mph. Higher up, gusts reached 71 mph at the Sexton Summit and 82 mph at Squaw Peak, according to meteorologist Brad Schaaf. Those winds kept the Jackson County Roads Department busy with a handful of large trees that fell into roadways. Roads department director John Vial said most of the incidents occurred on the valley floor, with no incidents reported on county road stretches higher up. "It was not a major night for us, but we did have crews out," Vial said. Significant overnight incidents included a tree that fell down across Galls Creek Road near Gold Hill and a large cypress that toppled into Teresa Way in Central Point. Road crews also headed out Thursday morning to clean up six additional fallen trees that had been cleared from the roadways already, including a large oak that fell into an intersection at South Stage and Griffin Creek roads just west of Medford. From 5 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday, Medford had seen just over one-fifth of an inch of rain. Ashland saw just under one-fifth of an inch, and Eagle Point received about one-quarter of an inch during the same period. Crater Lake saw eight inches of new snow.
