SCIENCEWORKS HANDS-ON MUSEUM Annual Science of Wine fundraiser coming to Ashland Springs Hotel By John Darling For the Tidings DailyTidings.com By John Darling For the Tidings Posted Apr. 24, 2015 @ 4:08 pm By John Darling For the Tidings Posted Apr. 24, 2015 @ 4:08 pm » Social News p bs:newslist StartDate="20121121" EndDate="p bs:datecalc Months="3"" DateSort="1" UseObjects="1" ObjectClass="81" Taxonomywords="2324,665" ExactTaxonomyMatch="1" Image="1" Count="4" --> ScienceWorks will hold its 12th annual “Science of Wine” dinner, wine tasting and auction Thursday, April 30, at Ashland Springs Hotel. The fundraiser one of the two big money-makers ScienceWorks hosts each year to support its educational programs for more than 10,000 kids annually.  The event welcomes 120 donors to a sumptuous, multi-course dinner with local winemakers offering a different wine for each course and for the appetizer segment, and explaining how they go about making their wines so good, says Rachel Cardillol, ScienceWorks director of marketing and guest services. Winemakers this year include Daisy Creek Vineyard of Jacksonville, Kriselle Cellars of White City, Plaisance Ranch of Williams and Folin Cellars of Gold Hill. To complement the appetizers, guests will taste Eliana Wines of Ashland, Jaxon Vineyards of Medford and Ledger David Cellars of Central Point.  There will be an auction of a mystery bottle of wine, usually valued at between $20 and $100, says Lindsey.  “To me, this dinner is like a gathering of family,” says ScienceWorks Executive Director Chip Lindsey. “ScienceWorks depends on and loves it. These are folks who really have a vision of the importance of a great science center and what it means to the community.”  The dinner is provided by Larks of Ashland Springs Hotel. In addition to the sipping hour and discussions of winemaking and dinner, the event features an auction of desirable items, including a lawn ticket to Britt Festival’s night concert featuring Alison Krauss with Willie Nelson. It also features an appearance by Wildlife Images, with one of their rescued wild creatures, as staff explains the importance of the survival of wildlife. Most of their rehabilitated animals are released back to the wild but some are too impaired and live out their lives on the grounds north of Grants Pass.  “The evening is a perfect blend of art, science and wonderful technology of the winemakers,” Lindsey says. “It’s so much a part of what makes the Rogue Valley what it is. We count on it to support our educational programs and the work we do with teachers, families and schools.”  The nonprofit ScienceWorks was established 14 years ago as an interactive tutorial experience that attracts both kids and their parents, drawing tours from schools in many counties of Southern Oregon and Northern California.  The gala last year netted ScienceWorks over $31,000 after expenses. Dress is semi-formal. Tickets are $85 for ScienceWorks members and $95 for non-members. Online sale of tickets is now closed but they may be purchased by calling 541-482-6767, ext. 232.
