The Ashland Woodland & Trails Association and the city's Forest Lands Commission are trying to get volunteers to help in the clean up of one of the largest of the illegal encampments in the watershed. The encampment, described as "humongous," is at the intersection of the proposed Gryphon and Red Queen trails. An "early-bird" crew will tackle the trash from 7:30 a.m., when they meet at the Bandergate parking area, sign waivers and organize carpooling to the staging site off Road 2060 (below White Rabbit parking). Four-wheel drive is recommended for drivers. The "flash trash" crew meets at 9 a.m. at the Bandergate parking area, and are scheduled to be done by 1 p.m. Flash-trashers will line out along the hill and haul bagged trash up to trucks, “bucket-brigade” style. Volunteers are encouraged to prepare for steep, dirty, possibly sooty ground, and wear sturdy shoes. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts are recommended, and gloves are a necessity. Organizers are especially looking for 4-wheel drive trucks with good-sized beds. Pizza and beer will follow.
