Ashland opening, closes some highways Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Dec. 13, 2015 at 10:53 AM By Local report Posted Dec. 13, 2015 at 10:53 AM »  Social News The first substantial snowstorm of the season has delayed Mount Ashland Ski Area's opening day, is causing traffic delays on mountain passes, and has knocked out power to about 7,800 people this morning. Mount Ashland Ski Area said rolling brown and blackouts means its season opener today has been rescheduled to Monday. "It was a valiant effort by the crew, but at this point we are pulling the plug on today. ... We ask that guests DO NOT attempt to go to the ski area at this time," the Mount Ashland website read this morning. Oregon Department of Transportation said chains are required for all vehicles expect 4x4s on the Siskiyou Summit, and chains were required for vehicles over 10,000 pounds for passes north of Grants Pass. Highways around Diamond Lake were closed this morning because of heavy snow and falling trees, ODOT said. A landslide has closed Highway 138 about 12 miles east of Glide. A transmission disruption has knocked out power to 6,284 people in Grants Pass, Rogue River, Gold Hill, Central Point, Azalea and Glendale, Pacific Power said on its website this morning. Power was expected to be restored by 10 a.m. In Butte Falls, Eagle Point and Shady Cove, about 1,585 customers were without power for an unknown cause. It was expected to be back on by 9:30 a.m. The National Weather Service said snow could continue to fall down to the valley floor today as a cold front moves through, with most of the accumulation above 1,500 feet. Another storm with possible low-elevation snow was expected to move into the area tonight and into Monday morning, but again, most of the accumulation was expected above 1,500 feet.
