The new Ashland Map Guide, produced by the Ashland Chamber and Convention Bureau, showcases Ashland’s outdoors. It includes updated maps of the Ashland Watershed, Ashland City Streets, Lithia Park, and newly added maps of Crater Lake, Sky Lakes Wilderness, Table Rocks and the newly designated Cascade Siskiyou Scenic Bikeway. Way finding and recommended hikes and rides were added to the editorial content to provide information for locals, residents and visitors to explore. By expanding the maps to include Crater Lake and Table Rocks, the map invites you to explore beyond Ashland’s outdoors from trails up the Table Rocks to Oregon’s only National Park, Crater Lake, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2016. The guide continues to tell the engaging story of the Ashland Forest Resiliency (AFR) Project and its work to manage the health of the Ashland Watershed. With the watershed being the source for Ashland’s drinking water and livability, we ask those recreating in the watershed to be safe and leave no trace. In January 2016, the United States Forest Service approved the Master Trails Plan for the Ashland Watershed that has been in the making for the past decade. The Ashland Woodlands Trails Association, in conjunction with the city of Ashland and many others, led the efforts of the Master Trails plan coming to fruition. The Master Trails plan includes newly approved existing trails that we are now able to publish in this map, as well as new trails that are to be constructed. Designations for trails includes multi-user trails, hike- or bike-only trails and equestrian trails. Please refer to map key. The new Ashland Map Guide encompasses the Master Trails Plan and provides a detailed look at the trail system of Ashland, including the Creek-to-Crest, Grizzly Peak Loop Trail, Oredson-Todd Woods Trails, Pacific Crest Trail and, regionally, the many trails one can explore in the Sky Lakes Wilderness. This edition of the map was produced in memory of Todd Ragsdale, an accomplished distance runner, known by many, who rarely missed a local race and even set a Guinness World Record in 2010 for barefoot running. He was a beloved leader of the local running community and will be missed. Thank you to the map partners: Ashland Forest Resiliency Project, city of Ashland Public Works, Ashland Parks and Recreation, The Nature Conservancy, The Fire Learning Network, Lomakatski and Oregon Shakespeare Festival, with technical support from the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. The map features local photography by Jeff McFarland, Sean Bagshaw and Graham Lewis. Maps were created by GIS Analyst, Dragonfly Lea Richards with the city of Ashland, in partnership with Katharine Cato, director of Ashland’s Visitor and Convention Bureau, who created the editorial, images and layout. Graphic design was executed by Dana Welsh on Chamber staff. Though this Map Guide is free, we encourage donations that go directly to supporting the future work of the AFR project.
