By Don Stone Rotary Club of Ashland February 02. 2016 8:35PM Student of the Month award presented to Phoenix Ash-Potts Phoenix Ash-Potts Photo by Adrienne Simmons The Rotary Club of Ashland at its Jan. 28 meeting proudly awarded its Student of the Month award for January to Phoenix Ash-Potts. Phoenix is a sixth-grade student at Ashland Middle School.  Phoenix entered his first year at Ashland Middle School with the anxieties that most students possess when they transition from grade school to the larger world of middle school. In just a short time, Phoenix overcame his anxiety and his teachers report that he jumps into endeavors without fear. Academically, his home-room teacher, Hillary Harper, reports that Phoenix began the school year needing the assistance of remedial reading and remedial math. In a short time, Phoenix proved that the remedial support was no longer required and he has evolved into a "straight A" student. In Language Arts, Phoenix has shown real talent in story development.  When given his award, Phoenix took the microphone to thank the Rotary Club and proved that he has no fear of public speaking. At school, he is the "Morning Announcer," taking the place of the school principal in giving the morning school news and announcements to all of the classrooms.  Ashland Rotary is proud to acknowledge student accomplishment at all levels.
