Bulldog boxers lose at tourney COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Three Bulldog Boxing Club fighters lost second-round decisions in Wednesday's USA Boxing National Tournament. Sam Sleezer, Homero Gonzalez and Lionel Leon drew first-round byes before falling in the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Trials. Sleezer, 201 pounds, lost a 14-3 decision to reigning world champion Michael Bennett of Chicago. Gonzalez, 147 pounds, lost an 8-4 decision to third-rated Joel Salas of Oxnard, Calif. Leon, 119 pounds, lost to 26-year-old Albert Villareal, 27-12, an Air Force champion. Next up for the Rogue Valley boxers is the Western Olympic Qualifier, Jan. 22-29, in Boise. That will be the final chance for the fighters to earn a spot in the Feb. 25-27 Olympic Trials at Foxwood Casino in Connecticut.
