Ashland to look at water cutback ASHLAND - Residents will be asked to minimize water waste voluntarily rather than face mandatory limits if the City Council approves a provision in a water curtailment ordinance at its meeting tonight. The provision was requested by city staff to help preserve water in Reeder Reservoir for use into the fall. The reservoir was 95 percent full at the end of June. But water content density in the Mount Ashland watershed snowpack at the end April was only 37 percent of normal, the Forest Service reported. The reservoir is fed by snow melt and rain runoff from Mount Ashland. If the provision is approved, residents will be asked to refrain from the following: Irrigating outside plants between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Allowing runoff for more than five minutes. Washing hard outdoor surfaces. Washing vehicles and equipment without a shutoff nozzle. Using nonrecycling fountains and ponds. Using water for dust control. Washing buildings except for painting preparation. Restaurants may not serve water unless requested by customers, and plumbing breaks must be fixed within 24 hours of discovery. Under mandatory curtailment, rates increase when consumers go above prescribed use levels.
