Dylana Constance Serenity Horton, 20, is accused of burglarizing a Central Point home April 24 while the owners were away on a camping trip and taking money, jewelry, a television and a gun. A Ford Focus was also taken and involved in the roll-over crash in Grants Pass later that day. The vehicle hit the side of house where a 2-year-old child was on the other side of the wall, according to an affidavit. A passenger in the car said Horton was driving erratically just before the accident and said something similar to "Drive it like you stole it," the affidavit said. The phrase has entered popular culture and generally means a person should drive a vehicle as if it is stolen and police are in pursuit. The words have been used for song lyrics, bumper stickers, clothing and other uses. Horton pleaded not guilty this week in Jackson County Circuit Court to charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, first-degree burglary, first-degree theft and identity theft. She has a pretrial conference set for July 6. After the crash, witnesses said they saw a woman and two men running from the scene of the accident. A checkbook belonging to the couple living in the burglarized Central Point home was found in the car. The couple later discovered a check had allegedly been written to Horton and cashed for $350, the affidavit said. Horton is suspected of pawning the stolen jewelry at a Cash Connection in Grants Pass. Central Point police were able to recover the jewelry from the shop and it was identified by the owner, the affidavit said. A Grants Pass police officer located one of the men believed to have fled from the crashed car. The man said he was a passenger in the car when Horton was driving and heard her say, "Drive it like you stole it" just before crashing, the affidavit said. Central Point police took Horton into custody June 11. She complained of difficulty breathing and was taken by ambulance to Providence Medford Medical Center. Upon her release, she was allegedly so out of control Central Point police called Medford police for help in transporting her to Jackson County Jail. Her bail was set at $25,000.
