Allred falls in amateur tournament BANDON � Very little went right for Jason Allred following Monday�s first-day play in the Pacific Northwest Men�s Amateur Golf Championship. Allred, a former Ashland High standout and current Pepperdine golfer, carded a 3-under-par 69 to open the first of two qualifying rounds. But then he shot an 86 on Day 2 of qualifying, finishing with a 155, 10 shots behind medalist Ryan Whitaker entering match play. The drop to a No. 27 seed in the match-play rankings proved costly for Allred on Thursday. After taking a 2-and-1 win over 38th-seed Mike Haack in Wednesday�s first round of match play, Allred slipped against sixth-ranked Wes Heffernan for a 6-and-5 loss. Allred�s stint in the amateur golf event proved to be one round more than Whitaker, however, as the top-seeded golfer fell to No. 64 Sprague Kolp. Among others, 13th-seed Jeff Quinney and fifth-seed Michael Beard each advanced into today�s quarters. Quinney, who won the Oregon Amateur last month at Eagle Point Golf Course, won 3 and 2 over Ryan Benzel on Thursday. Beard, the defending champion and Allred�s teammate at Pepperdine, beat Raymond Otis 1-up on Thursday. Former Oregon golfer Ryan LaVoie, the No. 3 seed, lost in the first round to Travis Andrews, 1-up.
