She was born April 26, 1923 in Deadwood and was very proud of being a native Oregonian. When Frances was a child her parents, Andrew and Emma Acheson, owned and operated the Mohawk Store and the family lived in the back. She attended Donna Grade School and Springfield High School where she was a member of an award-winning clarinet trio. Frances majored in physical education at the University of Oregon while working at Sacred Heart Hospital. In 1944 she went to work for the Lane County Sheriff’s office and became the first woman deputy. It was there she met Richard Bouey, a young Oregon State Policeman. They married November 14, 1948 and their daughter, Melinda Sue (Mindi) was born in 1955. Richard and Frances lived in Eugene, Roseburg, Newport, and Klamath Falls before moving to Medford in 1975. Richard and Frances enjoyed 37 wonderful years of retirement together. They traveled extensively, including 27 winters in San Felipe, Baja, Mexico, and numerous trips to visit Mindi and her family in Virginia. Other destinations included Ireland, the Caribbean, Greece, Australia, Israel, the Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Frances enjoyed collecting jewelry, especially beads from around the world, and was an active member of the Collectors Club and Antique Study Club. Frances is survived by Richard and Mindi; granddaughter, Maria and her husband, Steve; grandson, Martin and his wife, Ann; great-grandchildren, Angel, Sebastian, Gabriel, Sierra, Trenton, and Alexis; and a nephew, Duane Root. She was preceded in death by her brother, Arnold; sister, Vanieta; and son-in-law, Judge. A memorial service will be held at 2 p. m Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Medford First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
