Mail Tribune 100: May 20, 1916 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 20, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 20, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News May 20, 1916 BOND ELECTION TUESDAY TO VOTE BLUE LEDGE ROAD The election on Tuesday, May 23, in this city to authorize and empower the council to borrow $300,000 to build the Blue Ledge railroad should call out a full expression from the property owners of the city on that important question. It is necessary, therefore, that all should have the right to vote. This they will possess if they are legally registered. Anyone who has not registered since the January election at the city hall must register on the morning of the Tuesday election. This registration is especially provided for. It is a simple and quick process. Anyone who desires to register then will need only one witness, a freeholder in the city. That will make the registration permanent, under the new registration ordinance. But all should remember that the registration for county and state elections has nothing to do with the city registration and city elections. For all city elections the registration must be made at the city hall and it must have been made either on the day of January 11, 1916, or since that date. Registration at the city hall on Tuesday, therefore, will be easy and necessary to those who have not registered under the new city law since January 11. LOCAL AND PERSONAL The Opp mine, near Jacksonville, in which new machinery has been installed, is about ready again for the power. W. F. Downie, representing the Hallidle company of Seattle, which deals largely in the manufacture of mining machinery, has about completed the installation of the machinery for the oil flotation process. He will put in a Chilian mill, which is considered superior to the ordinary stamp mill, increasing the capacity for the same horsepower. The Opp mine will then have a capacity of 200 tons a day.
